Liam Lawson qualified seventh-fastest in the final Formula 2 qualifying session of the season in Abu Dhabi.
The quick Kiwi was on the lower reaches of the top ten at the session’s midway point.
But after saving his best lap for last, Lawson shoot up a handful of positions to eventually finish P7.
That means he starts tonight’s first reverse-grid race, which is a flip of the top ten, from fourth.
He’ll take the final feature race from his qualifying position.
Marcus Armstrong was unfortunate to miss out on reverse-grid pole, setting the 11th quickest lap in qualifying.
Armstrong was another big improver in the dying few minutes, coming up to 11th from 17th.
He’ll start both race one and the feature race from his qualifying position.
Oscar Piastri claimed another pole overnight, his fifth in a row.
Jack Doohan was a pleasant surprise in second, ensuring two Australians start on the front row of the feature race.
