Supercars driver Brodie Kostecki will make a NASCAR Cup Series cameo appearance at the Verizon 200 on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course on August 13.
The Erebus Racing driver will partner with Richard Childress Racing (RCR) for the race, an entry backed by Peter Adderton’s Mobile X. Series regulars Austin Dillon and Kyle Busch will be his teammates for the race.
“I am thrilled to be making my NASCAR Cup debut at the Brickyard,” Kostecki said.
“It’s an honour to compete at such an iconic venue and against some of the biggest names in motorsport.
“I’m incredibly grateful to RCR for giving me this opportunity, and I’m determined to make the most of it.”
Unlike Shane van Gisbergen, who won with Trackhouse Racing’s Project 91 program last month, Kostecki has experience in the North American scene, competing in the K&N Pro Series in 2013 and 2014. That series is now known as the ARCA East Series.
In his time in the United States, Kostecki claimed two pole positions, one top-five and four top-10 finishes across 16 races.
“Racing is at the core of everything I do, and NASCAR has been a lifelong goal of mine after spending years growing up in the sport’s heartland in North Carolina,” he said.
“It’s a whole different world over there, and any additional time I can spend racing is only going to help me try and win my first Supercars championship.
“We got some great exposure to the inner sanctum of the team during our recent trip, and I cannot wait to immerse myself in the team, this time as a Cup Series driver.”
Kostecki will therefore be the second Supercars driver to race in NASCAR in a six-week window, following van Gisbergen’s world headline-grabbing victory in Chicago.
He currently sits second in the Supercars standings, only seven points behind only teammate Will Brown.
