The all-Kiwi Mazda Pro8 South Island Series RX8 entry at this year’s Bathurst 6-Hour will start third of the Class D competitors in tomorrow’s enduro, following a solid qualifying performance.
Ash McConchie, Jarrod Parmenter and Kris Mackie are competing in the race in an RX8 borrowed from the Australian RX8 Cup.
It was Parmenter who took the wheel for qualifying, setting a best time of 2:44.2055 across six laps in the 20-minute session. This puts the team 49th overall on the grid but third from Class D.
It was Lachlan Bloxsom who was fastest in class, putting the Lone Star 11 Racing Toyota 86 in grid spot 43. The other Class D car in front of the Kiwi entry is that of MDR Motorsport, with Haydn Clark putting their Subaru BRZ TS STI 47th overall.
The other RX8 Cup entry was qualified by Ric Shaw, the series veteran putting the car 50th, meaning both RX8s will lock out the 25th row.
Overall, BMW locks out the front three rows with Will Davison topping qualifying to put the Bruce Lynton Service M3 on pole. Another M3 will start alongside, being that of the Go-Karts-Go which was qualified by Drew Russell.
Davison’s Supercars teammate Anton de Pasquale was third fastest in an M4 and will have the Yellow Pages Race for a Cure M2 Competition which was qualified by Thomas Randle next to it.
The Secure Wealth Advisers M4, which had Jayden Ojeda at the wheel, was fifth while the Syd Fab/ GWR Australia M3 of Tyler Everingham was sixth.
There were also some impressive performances throughout the pack, including for Ryden Quinn, who put the Local Legends Ford Mustang Mach 1 he is sharing with Grandfather Tony Quinn in grid slot eight.
Tomorrow’s Bathurst 6-Hour begins at 1.45 pm NZ time tomorrow and is being streamed live on the Speed Series website.
