Around 100 keen karters will head to Christchurch this weekend for the Garden City KartSport Championships, which is a double round in the Mainland Series.
There are six rounds in the series with the double round at the Garden City Championships to be followed by the Southern Series in Invercargill and Dunedin on 19 and 20 November respectively.
There are seven classes in the series comprising the Cadet ROK, Vortex Mini ROK, Rotax Max Junior, Rotax Max Light and Heavy, Briggs Light and Heavy and Open DD2.
There are two new national champions in the field including George Tucker from Wanaka, who races out of the Dunedin club in the Cadet ROK category and Christchurch’s Zach Tucker in Vortex Mini ROK.
Tucker will have a challenge from current series leader Jack McGrath from Dunedin in the Vortex Mini ROK.
There are three national schools’ champions competing including Southland’s Nixon Cripps in Cadet ROK; Blenheim’s Arthur Broughan, who will contest the Rotax Max Junior and Briggs LO206 Junior categories; and Canterbury Scott McLaren in Rotax Max Light.
Broughan will take on joint series leaders Ollie Workman (Nelson) and James Black (Dunedin) in the Rotax Max Junior racing.
Watch too for the likes of Auckland visitor Aaron Tahu, who will compete in the Open KZ2 and Rotax Max Heavy classes. Tahu, impressive in the opening rounds, will find plenty of competition especially from series points leaders Thomas Emmerson (Christchurch) in Rotax Max Heavy.
Tuning runs are from 9am on Saturday and Sunday followed by qualifying, two 8-lap heats, a pre-final over 12 laps and final for each class over 18 laps.
Points toward the series are accumulated at each round, with free entry for spectators.
