Jaxon Evans and Tim Zimmermann leave the opening round of the 2023 ADAC GT Masters season with the championship lead following a solid weekend in the opening round at Hockenheimring.
The duo shared driving responsibilities of Huber Racing’s Porsche 911 GT3 R, powering to victory in Race 1 and backing it up with fifth in Race 2.
Evans was tasked with the opening stint in Sunday’s race, starting off the third row. He remained near the front throughout his stint, handing over to Zimmermann to bring them home only .277 seconds off fourth place.
Team Joos by RACEmotion drivers Finn Gehrsitz and Sven Muller (Porsche 911 GT3 R) took a comfortable 6.4-second win over Haupt Racing Team’s Petru Umbrarescu and Arjun Maini (Mercedes AMG GT3), while Landgraf Motorsport’s Salman Owega and Elias Seppanen (Mercedes AMG GT3) rounded out the podium.
Having finished fifth in a slightly shorter Race 1, Gehrsitz and Muller fall just one point off top spot, with 37 points, while fifth for Evans and Zimmermann in the 37-lap finale sees them take home 38 points from the ‘Festival of Dreams’ event.
ADAC GT Masters returns on July 7-9 at Norisring.
