American-born Australian-based New Zealander Hunter McElrea will compete in this year’s Indy Pro 2000 Championship driving with Pabst Racing.
McElrea will continue his relationship with Pabst Racing, having competed with the team in the U.S.F2000 Championship last season. McElrea performed well in his debut season in the Road to Indy – just losing the championship to Braden Eves in the final round at Laguna Seca.
During a test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in October last year, McElrea had his maiden outing the new Indy Pro 200 car, posting the fastest time of the two-day test.
“I am thrilled to be on the 2020 Indy Pro 2000 grid, and step up into the middle step of the Road to Indy,”“After getting my first taste of an Indy Pro 2000 car at the Chris Griffis Test last year, I was hooked. I am very grateful for the opportunity that Pabst Racing has given me, along with my backers, sponsors, and Team HM members for getting me on the grid. I cannot wait to get back into the car!”
McElrea said.
The first round of the Indy Pro 2000 Championship is on March 14 at St. Petersburg, Florida. The championship will be supporting the Indycar Series where Scott Dixon will be racing.
