Callum Hedge finished third in yesterday’s Porsche Carrera Cup Australia race in Melbourne.
Australian Max Vidau was the winner, with Jackson Walls finishing second in a wet-weather race.
The result comes after Thursday’s opening race was declared a non-event following a lengthy red flag interruption.
This saw Hedge retain his pole for last night’s race, with Vidau second on the grid. The Australian was the better of the two starters and led the field into Turn 1. Hedge slotted into second but was quickly pressured by Walls, who’d started on the row behind.
Walls quickly took second off the Kiwi, leaving Hedge locked in battle with Thomas Maxwell for the final podium spot. That battle lasted most of the race until Maxwell slipped off-track on the penultimate lap, leaving Hedge clear in third.
Up front, Vidau had built a gap over Walls and took the chequered flag by 2.5 seconds. Hedge was 12 seconds down the road, his battle with Maxwell having seen the front two run well clear.
Fellow New Zealander Chris Pither was the 13th car home.
The Porsche Carrera Cup Australia field returns for one final race today at 8.25 pm.
A television rights issue unique to this event has meant Sky has had to pull broadcasting of it, but live timing is still available online.
