New Zealand’s Callum Hedge has claimed his fourth Porsche Carrera Cup Australia pole position of the season in this afternoon’s qualifying session on the Surfers Paradise Street Circuit.
A best lap of 1:12.6154 on his final flyer saw the Team Porsche New Zealand and Earl Bamber Motorsport driver top Luke Youlden by 0.1016 seconds to claim the top spot.
Title rival Jackson Walls, who sits only six points off Hedge’s championship lead, relied on a late lap to jump up the order to third, but he would drop to seventh as other times came in. He was able to complete one further lap as the last competitor across the line but was unable to improve.
David Wall and Dylan O’Keeffe will start off the second row.
Hedge had jumped to the provisional pole with just four minutes remaining in the session, setting a 1:12.9676 just seconds before a red flag was called when Harri Jones stopped on the main straight near the pit exit.
Max Vidau hit the tyre wall at the same point but could return to the pit lane and continue running when the track was cleared moments later.
Hedge improved on his best lap on his final run, as would several others, with the order continuing to shuffle until well after the chequered flag. No one would top his time, leaving the Kiwi in the prime position to extend his championship lead in this evening’s opening race.
Today’s sole race begins at 5.25 pm (NZ time) and will be shown live on Sky Sport.
