Callum Hedge has continued his excellent run of form in the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup, claiming second spot in todays Race 3 at Sandown. Aaron Love was victorious in the event, claiming victory by over eight seconds over the Kiwi.
The weekend form of Hedge had improved each race and he looked set for third until a final lap overtake attempt on David Russell, in his 50th race, forced the veteran wide and gifted the Kiwi second spot. Jackson Walls also was the benefactor from this, his overtake on Russell seeing him take the remaining spot on the podium.
It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for Hedge, who had only managed to qualify his Earl Bamber Motorsport entry 11th on Saturday. That was where he finished in Race 1, narrowly missing out on the top 10.
Race 2 saw a dramatic increase in pace, with the longer length suiting the 18-year-old who managed to climb from a starting position of 13th to come home 5th.
That left Race 3, a solid drive seeing the Kiwi grace the podium yet again in his maiden Carrera Cup campaign, gaining three spots after starting fifth. His form of late also saw him claim his first victory in the class in Round 4 in Townsville.
Despite the recent form from the Kiwi’s, it was a weekend to remember for Love, who throws himself back into championship contention with two rounds to go. Love is the first driver of this season to have back-to-back round victories.
Young Australian Harri Jones was also crowned Porsche Michelin Junior Champion for 2022 after Race 2, a prize which will see him travel to Europe to compete with Carrera Cup winners from other competitions throughout the world.
The championship now takes a six week break and will resume at Bathurst on October 6-9.
