The GT World Challenge Australia will return to New Zealand for the first time since 2018, with the 2025 season finale to be held at Hampton Downs.
The announcement was made to media representatives at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium ahead of the 24 Hours of Spa and coincided with the release of the 2025 schedules of the other SRO series, including the Europe and America editions of the GT World Challenge.
Hampton Downs will also host the final round of GT4 Australia at the same event.
“We have worked closely with the circuits and other stakeholders, including Supercars and Motorsport Australia, to get our calendars confirmed in preparation for the global announcement here at the Crowdstrike 24 Hours of Spa,” said SRO Motorsports Australia CEO Ben McMellan.
“We are very excited by the addition of Hampton Downs to the 2025 calendar. We are pleased to confirm that SRO Australia will offer a substantial contribution towards logistic and freight costs for the event.”
Geoff Emery secured his second of three titles when the series, then known as the Australian GT Championship, last competed at the Waikato venue.
A strong contingent of Australian drivers, including Gart Tander and Tony D’Alberto, were joined by a large New Zealand presence on the grid, with the likes of Jonny Reid, Daniel Gaunt and Andrew Waite featuring on the grid.
The 2024 GT World Challenge Australia features a host of Supercars stars, including Chaz Mostert, Will Brown, and Jaxon Evans, as well as reigning Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe Champion Brendon Leitch.
Phillip Island will host the GT World Challenge Australia opening round from April 4 to 6, followed by an outing at Sydney Motorsport Park from May 2 to 4.
A yet-to-be-confirmed round is pencilled in for June before the series heads to Queensland Raceway on August 1-3.
The Bend in South Australia hosts Round 5. The series then heads across the Tasman for the New Zealand round at Hampton Downs from October 31 to November 2.
The event, scheduled for October 31-November 2, may shake up the traditional time slots of events within New Zealand, with the final round of the South Island Endurance Series usually taking place in October. SIERDC’s 2024 season concludes in Timaru on October 19.
Further details, including race formats for each round, will be released in due course.
