NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team has announced that New Zealand driver Emma Gilmour will be returning to the team for the 2023 Extreme E season alongside teammate Tanner Foust.
The pair joined McLaren at the start of this year for its first season in the series and earnt the team its first-ever podium at the Uruguay Natural Energy X Prix in Punta del Este.
Gilmour is no stranger to off-road racing considering she became the first and only female to win the New Zealand Rally Championship (NZRC) back in 2016.
The Dunedin local also won the FIA Women in Motorsport and Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) cross-country rally selection in 2015.
“I’ve had an incredible first season with McLaren in 2022. We’ve really grown as a team, and it was lovely to be rewarded with a podium finish in Uruguay,” said Gilmour.
“I’m excited to be staying with McLaren for 2023 and can’t wait to get stuck into some new races while educating our audiences about the damaging effects of climate change.”
Her teammate throughout this season and the next, Foust, is also no stranger to rallying and going sideway considering he’s a four-time US rallycross champion, four-time X Game gold medalist, and two-time Formula Drift champion.
“It’s been awesome to be part of McLaren and Extreme E in 2022 and I’m thrilled to be racing again for the team in 2023,” Foust said.
“It’s been so much fun to race in some exciting locations with Emma and the team, while educating and inspiring sustainable action. I’m excited to see what 2023 holds.”
Extreme E returns next year at the first round in Saudi Arabia on March 11 to 12.
