Kiwis Brock Gilchrist and Clay Osborne have locked out the front row for this afternoon’s Porsche Sprint Challenge Australia opener at The Bend.
Team Porsche New Zealand’s Gilchrist claimed pole position as the only competitor to go below the 1:19 barrier, with his 1:18.9776 just 0.0253 seconds faster than Osborne.
Ayrton Hodson qualified ninth, with a best effort of 1:19.6185, having gone second fastest in wet conditions in Friday’s second practice.
Gilchrist enters the round tied for the championship lead with Caleb Sumich and Oscar Targett on 132 points. Targett will start from fourth, while Sumich is off the fourth row in seventh.
Conor Somers will start directly behind Gilchrist and next to Targett in third, while Jake Santalucia and Aron Shields complete the third row.
Hamish Fitzsimmons, fourth in the standings following a win and a second in Round 1 at Phillip Island, starts eighth.
The opening 25-minute race of the round begins at 4.05 pm (NZST) on Saturday.
The 45-minute Jim Richards Enduro follows at 10.30 am on Sunday, ahead of the second sprint race at 3.45 pm that afternoon.
