A team of university students in Germany have just set a new Guinness World Record for the fastest accelerating electric vehicle, reaching 0 to 100km/h in 1.416 seconds.
When we hear about fast EVs, it’s not uncommon that they have power figures in the thousands. However, the University of Stuttgart’s Green Team set the new record with a car that makes 180kW.
Although that kind of power may be relatively low in any normal car, the E0711-11 EVO weighs just 145kg, resulting in a power-to-weight ratio of 1.241kW per kg.
That kind of power-to-weight bests most supercars as well as a Formula 1 car. Not only that but its 2.5G of acceleration is more than Max Verstappen experiences getting off the line as well.
Power can be sent to each individual wheel but the car uses all fours to achieve its blistering acceleration.
