New Zealander Brendon Leitch finished on the podium for the second race running, coming home third in the final Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe race at Circuit Paul Ricard.
Competing as a sole driver in the Pro Class for Leipert Motorsport, Leitch tread cautiously in the dying minutes as a train of cars battled for the final podium spot. Contact on Andrzej Lewandowski from Oliver Soderstrom saw the former spin across in front of the field on the penultimate lap, Leitch running wide to avoid the incident to move from sixth to third in one move.
The Kiwi had started from seventh on the grid and remained in proximity for the race’s entirety, holding off cars behind while also threatening those ahead.
He took his mandatory stop right on the halfway point, returning to sixth once the pit window had closed before joining the battle for the final podium spot.
Up front, the entry shared by Marzio Moretti and Sebastian Balthasar pulled clear for a 3-second win, with Rodrigo Testa de Sousa and Ugo de Wilde coming home second.
Moretti and Balthasar finished second in Saturday’s race, where Leitch was also third, to take the championship lead.
Saturday’s race winners, Mattia Michelotto and Gilles Stadsbader, could only manage fifth place, their result elevating Leitch above them to second in the standings.
Super Trofeo returns for Round 2 on 29 June-1 July at Spa-Francorchamps.
