Will Davison has won the second Supercars race of the weekend in Perth.
Cam Waters made a strong start, taking the race lead into turn one, with pole-sitter Will Davison dropping back to second.
Shane van Gisbergen lost a position on the opening lap to teammate Broc Feeney sitting 12th at the end of the opening lap.
Thomas Randle and Lee Holdsworth made contact on the opening lap with both sustaining damage but were able to make it back to the pit lane for repairs.
As the field came around to start the next lap Scott Pye had contact with Jack Le Brocq, which ended with Pye hitting the inside fence on the front straight.
Initially, the safety car was called before the red flag was brought out, as the car needed to be recovered, but there was also damage to a gate in the fence, which needed to be repaired before racing could resume.
The race restarted on lap 6 after a lengthy red flag.
Through the pit stop sequence, both Triple Eight cars took three new tyres while the rest of the key runners took two.
Waters received a 5-second penalty for an unsafe re-entry after running off the back of the kerbing at the final corner.
Will Brown stopped on the side of the track on lap 36 bringing out another safety car.
Heimgartner’s team made a strategy call to bring the car in for a second stop to take fresh tyres when the safety car was called.
Waters led the field to the race restart, by which point van Gisbergen had climbed to 10th.
With fresh tyres, Heimgartner was able to climb through the field moving up to fourth at the line. Though the penalty for Waters meant he would take a podium result in third.
The Safety car also helped van Gisbergen who climbed up to fifth by the end of the race.
As a result of the penalty, Davison took his first race win in six years, with teammate Anton De Pasquale in second and Heimgartner third.
Chris Pither ended the race sitting 15th.
