Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo announced on social media that he will be staying with the McLaren team until the end of 2023 at least.
Ricciardo has been met with his fair share of struggles during his time at McLaren since he joined them the start of the 2021 season, with the Australian driver only finishing in the top 10 just four times in the opening 11 races this season.
Despite winning the Italian Grand Prix last year, McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown said in a Sky Sports documentary that Ricciardo has, “generally not met his or our expectations, as far as what we were expecting.”
However, Brown recently reinforced that the two’s relationship had “never been better”.
While many rumours have spread about Ricciardo’s future at McLaren, he assured fans he won’t be leaving the team at least until his contract expires at the end of the 2023 season.
“There have been a lot of rumours around my future in Formula 1, but I want you to hear it from me,” wrote Ricciardo
“I am committed to McLaren until the end of next year and am not walking away from the sport. Appreciate it hasn’t always been easy, but who wants easy!
“I’m working my ass off with the team to make improvements and get the car right and back to the front where it belongs. I still want this more than ever. See you in Le Castellet. Daniel”
We next join Ricciardo and the rest of the F1 paddock in France for the French Grand Prix at Le Castellet on July 25.
