Three time Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen has experienced tremendous success this season but its important to pay homage the Holden machinery he achieved it in.
Although the now defunct Holden brand was treated to a worthy send off at last month’s Bathurst 1000, the upcoming VALO Adelaide 500 will be the last time we see the marque take to the Supercars circuit and van Gisbergen is determined to win it.
This year, the Kiwi has helped Holden achieve its 600th ATCC/Supercars win alongside it’s 36th Bathurst win.
While van Gisbergen has scored a record 21 wins in a single season this season, he has just two more races to extend that number. Considering the next round will be Holden’s final-ever, he won’t be backing down.
“I want to win more races,” van Gisbergen said speaking with Supercars.
“So for sure we can go to Adelaide as a celebration and have a good time.
“We also have the chance to celebrate Holden, that’s going to mean a lot to our team and GM.
“We want to go out with a good result. Everyone wants to be the last Holden winner.
“The Ford guys probably want to spoil that, so I’ll be there prepared but also ready to party.”
The closest rival to SVG has been Ford Mustang driver Cam Waters who sits 660 points behind this season’s championship winner.
Both drivers have had their fair share of on track battles in 2022, including some at the last-ever Supercars round at Pukekohe back in September.
But from 2023, Ford will be going up against the likes of the Chevrolet Camaro when the Holden is retired.
We’re just under a month away from the VALO Adelaide 500 which will feature two 250km, 78 lap races over the weekend of December 1 to 4.
