Thomas Randle’s Castrol Racing Mustang will feature New Zealand’s native Mamuku’ black fern’ as part of its look for the third round of the Repco Supercars Championship at Taupō Motorsport Park this weekend.
Rising star Randle will sport New Zealand’s iconic fern on the bonnet and rear quarter panels of his Castrol Ford, plus extra black accents through the livery, in what will be the Supercars’ 22nd visit to NZ shores for an official championship round.

“It’s always great having the opportunity to race in New Zealand, and it’s cool to be able to do something special to mark the occasion with a few local touches on the car.
“The extra black accents and black ferns on the car is a nice tribute to New Zealand motorsport. The country is just mad for motor racing, and the Supercars race at Taupō last year was absolutely packed,” said Randle.
The Mamaku is the tallest and fastest-growing native tree. It is known worldwide as New Zealand’s sporting symbol – a feature of its national rugby, cricket and football teams.

“It’s fantastic to see a distinctively New Zealand look for Thomas Randle’s Castrol Racing Mustang this weekend at Taupo.
“The mamaku (black fern) is New Zealand’s fastest growing native fern tree and we certainly hope that its addition to the car translates to the Castrol Racing Tickford Mustang being the fastest car on track!” said Daniel Hibberd, Castrol’s New Zealand National Sales Manager.
Randle currently sits ninth in the Supercars Championship, while his Tickford Racing team-mate Cameron Waters is second in the title chase, just seven points behind title leader and reigning champion Will Brown.
Randle’s black fern-inspired livery will be first seen in the flesh during Thursday’s Track to Town, where all 24 Supercars will drive from the circuit to Taupō’s city centre, followed by Friday’s practice sessions.

“I’m really looking forward to being a part of it again, and hopefully, we can give it a good crack to try and clinch the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy,” said Randle.
The ITM Taupō Super400 event will feature three races – two 120km races on Saturday and one 200km race on Sunday – with the driver scoring the most points across the weekend awarded the prestigious Jason Richards Trophy.
