The next Kiwi World Champion could be crowned this weekend as Nick Cassidy and Mitch Evans enter the Formula E season-finale double-header in London in first and second, respectively.
Cassidy holds a 12-point advantage over his Jaguar TCS Racing teammate and compatriot Evans, who sits tied on points in second with Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein.
Antonio Felix Da Costa’s three consecutive wins have elevated him to fourth, 33 points behind the Kiwi leader.
With a maximum of 58 points available across the two races on the 2.09 km, 20-turn circuit at the ExCeL in London, a total of seven drivers mathematically remain in the title race.
Cassidy remains in the box seat ahead the round despite a challenging weekend in the Portland double-header, where he failed to score a point.
The 29-year-old has achieved success at the venue before, winning the final race of the 2023 campaign.
“I’m looking forward to returning to London – it’s one of my favourites of the season, especially after winning there last year,” he said.
“Portland was tough for me but I’m feeling positive having maintained my lead in the Drivers’ World Championship. Bring it on!”
Evans, too, has won in London, securing victory in the opening outing in 2023.
“London is always a great track, and I’m excited to return,” he said. “Leaving Portland in second puts me in a great position for London, just 12 points from the top spot, so it’s given me a boost of confidence for sure.”
“I’m determined to maintain a strong position for the team, too, and that we finish the weekend taking the Teams’ World Championship title.
“It’s going to be a hard, but we’ll be giving it everything we’ve got.”
A maiden Formula E Team’s Championship is also on the cards for Jaguar TCS Racing in their eighth season, with their all-Kiwi driver lineup having built a 33-point lead over Porsche.
To date, this has been Jaguar TCS Racing’s most successful season since entering the all‑electric World Championship in 2016, having already exceeded their previous record points and podium totals.
The 322 points scored going into London is also more than any team has previously achieved in a full season.
“I am extremely proud that we go into the final race weekend of the 2024 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship with Jaguar TCS Racing leading both the Teams’ and Drivers’ World Championship standings,” said Team Principal James Barclay.
“We’ve been consistently quick this season, and the whole team has worked incredibly hard to get us to this point.
“For the last four seasons, we have gone into the final weekend in a position to fight for the Drivers’ or Teams’ Championships, and we are excited to be fighting for both titles again.
“Our 2024 campaign has seen us achieve our biggest points haul to date, and alongside our customer team, Envision Racing, we’ve achieved 16 podiums so far, matching last season’s total. This shows how competitive the Jaguar I‑TYPE 6 is and how dedicated both teams have been to maximise its potential.
“With just two rounds to go in London, we are very much looking forward to racing on home soil and will give it everything we have.”
Coverage of the opening race in London begins at 3.00 am NZST on Sunday, followed by the season-finale at the same time on Monday.
