Nick Cassidy finished 17th on the opening day of testing for the 2022 DTM season.
Cassidy was just 0.061 seconds faster than teammate Felipe Fraga, who ended the day in 18th.
Marius Zug topped the timesheets at the end of the opening day of practice with teammate Rene Rast 0.3 seconds off Zug’s time to sit second, in a 1-2 finish for Audi.
Cassidy will miss the first round of the championship due to a clash with the Formula E series where he also races.
Sebastien Loeb will be behind the wheel for that round, making his debut in the category. Loeb got behind the wheel of the Ferrari during the final hour of the day, though it’s not clear what his best time was as the transponder wasn’t updated when the drivers changed.
Cassidy joined the team for the final round of the championship last season, replacing Alex Albon who was unable to attend the round due to his commitments as a test and reserve driver for the Formula 1 Red Bull team. Cassidy finished fifth and 13th in the two races.
Cassidy joined the team alongside Liam Lawson as he made a bid for the 2021 series title, which he would narrowly miss, though the Kiwis were able to secure the team’s championship title for 2021.
Cassidy will make his full-time debut in the series when the championship gets underway at Portimao, 29 April to 2 May.
