New Zealand’s Ryan Yardley will start Sunday morning’s Porsche Carrera Cup from the second row after qualifying fourth in a session dominated by Kellymoss drivers, who claimed pole in all three classes.
His second-best effort sees him start Race 2 from third.
Kiwi Madeline Stewart also impressed and will start from 13th in the 33-strong field in the opener and tenth in Race 2.
Having gone third fastest in opening practice before topping Practice 2, Yardley set a best lap of 2:08.864 in qualifying to fall just 0.052 seconds off third.
Championship leader Loek Hartog of Kellymoss used his knowledge of the team’s home track to claim both overall poles, putting over four-tenths on the field.
“ The fresh tyres did a good job for me today, but the Kellymoss team did too,” said Hartog.
“P1 by 4/10ths is, of course, something that we’re very happy with as a team.
“It’s definitely the way to go here. You want to start in front since it’s a very twisty track, one that I really enjoy.
“Starting both races from the pole is definitely something I’m very happy with.”
Dan Clarke, who is seventh in the championship, starts on the front row, with Jimmy Libre qualifying third.
Alex Sedgewick, who sits second in the standings, will be left to start in the midfield after only qualifying tenth.
With third-placed Michael Cooper starting eighth, Yardley is in an excellent position to shoot up the standings and challenge for second in tomorrow morning’s opener.
Kellymoss’s Alan Metni claimed the Pro-AM class pole, while his Masters’ Class teammate Chris Bellomo also led his group, securing the pole trifecta for the ‘home’ team who have their workshop less than 100 miles from the track.
The opening race at Road America begins at 4.40 am NZST and is followed by Race 2 at 4.30 am on Monday.
Both races can be streamed live and free online.
