New Zealander Chris van der Drift has finished on the podium in the first of two Porsche Carrera Cup Asia races at Korea International Circuit, coming home in third. Compatriot Reid Harker also fought hard for fourth in his first appearance in the series of the season.
It’s the third consecutive podium in three races for van der Drift, the Team Shanghai Yonda driver converting a front-row start for some good points.
French driver Florian Latorre was the race winner, pulling two seconds clear of championship leader Luo Kailuo who held off a late van der Drift challenge to settle for second, just 0.477 seconds ahead of the Kiwi.
Harker finished a lonely fourth, 5 seconds behind van der Drift but 10 seconds ahead of fifth-placed Martin Ragginger. The EBM Giga Racing competitor had started from the same position.
The Porsche Carrera Cup Asia returns for a further race tonight, with van der Drift starting further down the grid, having failed to set a competitive second time in qualifying. Track limits were an issue for a number of competitors in this regard, with the Kiwi having five lap times deleted violations.
Harker also lost two of his times but managed a competitive run to earn another second-row start come race time.
Round 4 of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia begins today at 2.00 pm NZ time.
