New Zealand talent Callum Hedge will link forces with HMD Motorsports for a full season in the 2024 Indy NXT Championship.
The signing comes off the back of a successful Formula Regional Americas season, where Hedge secured the title on November 4 at Circuit of the Americas with his 12th win from 16 starts. He backed it up with a further victory and podium in the final round of the competition the following day.
The young Kiwi got his first taste of Indy NXT the week before that, competing in the Chris Griffis Memorial test on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course. His best time was 14th fastest, having completed 55 laps.
His 2024 Indy NXT season will begin with a two-day test at Sebring International Raceway before a further run at Laguna Seca ahead of the season opener at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on March 10.
“I am anxious to get situated with the team and get going,” Hedge said. “The first test is two months away, but you can trust I will be taking in everything I can between now and January to ensure I am up to speed and ready to go.”
HMD Motorsports General Manager Mike Maurini adds, “He is stepping into a program that has ascended rapidly and has been winning along the way. He is another piece to the growing puzzle and will be a threat for the top step of the podium all season.
“While the North American ovals and temporary courses will be new to him, he has a strong support system of drivers and engineers around him that will assist in making the transition seamless.”
Hedge will continue to receive substantial support from the Tony Quinn Foundation, Giltrap Group and Tasman Motorsport Group.
He will return to action this weekend at the Adelaide 500, where he can wrap up the 2023 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia title should he overturn a 21-point deficit on leader Jackson Walls.
