Will Brown has won this evening’s opening race of the Tasmania SuperSprint, topping New Zealander’s Andre Heimgartner and Shane van Gisbergen respectively.
Championship leader’s Brodie Kostecki and Chaz Mostert both crashed out contention, opening the door in a tight title race where van Gisbergen now moves up to second.
Both Kostecki and Mostert were early casualties in the race, the former making contact with Cam Waters to drop laps down while the latter was forced out following contact with Broc Feeney.
Kostecki returned to the track to finish laps down in 23rd, one spot ahead of James Courtney who was also a victim of contact with Mark Winterbottom.
Heimgartner was deserving of his second-spot in his 100th round in the series, almost managing to hunt down Brown towards the end as his tyres faded.
It was a different story for van Gisbergen who was successful in hunting down his opposition, managing to take the final podium spot off Waters on the final lap.
Waters did hold on for fourth, while Scott Pye rounded out the top five. Tim Slade finished sixth, one spot ahead of Jack Le Brocq who couldn’t capitalise on a front row start and was left to finish seventh.
Cameron Hill, Nick Percat and Thomas Randle rounded out the top 10, while some good racing from Shell V-Power Racing saw them charge from the back for Will Davison to finish 11th and Anton De Pasquale 11th.
Matt Payne was solid in his 15th and continues to hold firm as the top rookie in the championship.
