Brendon Leitch is set to test a Matt Stone Racing Chevrolet Camaro at Sydney Motorsport Park tomorrow, significantly boosting his chances of securing a co-driver role with the team.
As he gears up for this pivotal moment, Leitch expressed his excitement, saying, “I’m really looking forward to having a drive tomorrow. There are no expectations for me. Just to have fun and get some experience.”
The 29-year-old Kiwi stands out as a leading candidate to partner Cameron Crick in MSR’s wildcard entry for the prestigious Bathurst 1000 and the precursor, The Bend 500.
MSR’s wildcard campaign kicks off in Sydney with Crick, and will extend to endurance races at The Bend and Bathurst. Additionally, a second sprint event is under consideration, pending approval from Supercars.
Leitch’s reputation as a highly sought-after GT driver is well-established. His extensive international experience spans the 24H GT Series, GT World Challenge Europe – Endurance Cup, Le Mans Cup, Asian Le Mans Series, IMSA Sportscar Championship, and Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe, where he clinched the 2023 Pro Championship.
“It seems like a fun car to drive. Plenty of work to do with a gear lever after driving GT3 cars for a while,” he added, reflecting on the challenges ahead.
Last year, he showcased his talents in GT World Challenge Australia, driving an Audi R8 alongside fellow Kiwi Tim Miles for Dayle ITM Team MPC. Although he posed a strong challenge early in the championship, a series of misfortunes and setbacks ultimately saw him and Miles finish in sixth place.

If he secures a spot with MSR, Leitch will bring invaluable experience from Mount Panorama, having debuted at the iconic circuit last year during the GT World Challenge Australia round. He also returned this year to compete in the Bathurst 12 Hour, further solidifying his credentials.
Tomorrow’s test session will feature three of MSR’s co-drivers: Leitch in the #35 Camaro, Cameron McLeod in the #4, and Tim Slade in the #10. Though only the later is confirmed to be joining the team for the Endurance Races so far.
On-track action is scheduled to run from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm local time at Sydney Motorsport Park.
