Organisers of the ITM NZ Formula Ford Championship have declared the 2019/20 season prematurely amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ultimately, the cancellation of the Hampton Downs season finale has meant Pukekohe teenager Billy Frazer has been crowned champion in his debut year.
The Kings College student snared eight victories across the season and finished on the podium in all but five races.
However, Frazer did not simply walk away with the title having only taken the lead of the point standings in the final round.
Runners up was Manawatu-based racer Callum Crawley. The recently crowned North Island Formula Ford champion, Crawley equalled Frazer’s podium tally with 10 and finished a mere 24-points behind his title rival.
Six points adrift of Crawley was erstwhile championship leader James Penrose. Penrose looked to be in firm contention for the championship following a stellar opening round at Pukekohe. The 23-year-old ultimately rounded out the season with two victories and eight podium finishes.
North Island duo Zac Stichbury and Thomas Boniface finished the year in fourth and fifth respectively, a fair margin ahead of Ronan Murphy in sixth.
Kaleb Ngatoa, Cameron Tanner, Keith Miller and Blake Evans rounded out the top Ten in the standings.
