Earl Bamber is partnering with Scott Dixon in this weekend’s Petit Le Mans IMSA race at Road America, the Kiwi a late substitution for an ill Kevin Magnussen.
Last month, Bamber was confirmed as one of three new Chip Ganassi drivers for next year’s IMSA series.
But with Magnussen ruled out of this weekend’s season-ending 10-hour race, Bamber will get some early race experience.
Until today, he has only had two tests in the CGR Cadillac Daytona Prototype.
“Thanks to the Chip Ganassi Racing team for putting the trust in me to jump into the car,” Bamber said.
“I hope Kevin is OK. He is feeling a bit under the weather.
“I was just saying to the guys I was about to enjoy a nice breakfast, and now I am getting suited for the warm-up.”
Dixon is the reigning Petit Le Mans winner and has four podiums in seven attempts.
The No.1 Cadillac qualified fourth but is relegated to the back of the grid because of the driver change.
