Four drivers have pulled away from the pack in the race for the 2023 Formula E Drivers Championship, with both Nick Cassidy and Mitch Evans in the mix as the series enters its penultimate race weekend of the season.
It’s all to play for at the Rome E-Prix double-header at Circuito Cittadino dell’EUR this weekend. In this event, Evans sensationally claimed back-to-back victories last year on his way to second in the standings. The tight 3.385 km street circuit features on the Formula E calendar for the fifth time in series history.
Competing for Jaguar TCS Racing, Evans has overcome a slow start to his campaign this year, having scored only 14 points over the opening five rounds before taking back-to-back victories in Brazil and Germany, respectively. He has since finished fourth in Race 2 in Germany and in the last round in Portland, as well as finishing on the podium in Monaco and Indonesia.
Evans now sits fourth in the standings, 32 points off championship leader Jake Dennis.
For Cassidy, the equation is much more straightforward. Having taken six podiums, including three race wins, the Envision Racing driver is only one point off the championship lead.
Pascal Wehrlein, who has also won three races this year, sits third in the standings, 15 points behind Cassidy and 16 ahead of Evans.
The Teams Championship is still up for grabs, with Porsche Formula E Team holding a narrow four-point buffer over Cassidy’s Envision Racing. Jaguar TCS Racing sit third, a further 35 points behind.
All that remains is two races in Rome and two in London, with a maximum of 116 points up for grabs if a driver were to win all four races, having taken the fastest lap and started on pole.
