With this weekend’s incredible Formula 1 race in Hungary seeing Alpine driver Esteban Ocon claiming his first ever win it would be hard to believe that more drama could unfold post race.
But it seems the race officials would have the last say on how the weekend eventuated with changes in the podium places at the Hungarian grand prix.
Aston martin driver Sebastian Vettel, who finished second, has been disqualified after his car failed to provide enough fuel for the stewards to take a 1 litre sample. Post race, officials only managed to take 0.3 litres from the German’s British racing green machine.
The disqualification meant that Aston Martin lost 18 hard fought points from the weekend after Lance Stroll also did not finish, getting caught up in the first lap collisions. Team principal Otmar Szafnauer said that Aston Martin will appeal the decision.
However, the disqualification was good news for Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz as they moved up into 2nd and 3rd place respectively. That means Hamilton extends his championship lead to 8 points moving into the summer break.
Sainz grabbed his second podium for Ferrari stating on twitter “It comes (again) in a non-typical way….but cheers”. That meant Sainz moves ahead of his teammate Leclerc up to 6th place in the standings on 83 points compared to the Monegasques drivers 80 points.

Jaxon Evans and Larry ten Voorde also fell into the weird and wonderful world of post race place changes.
Sunday’s race winner Marvin Klein was excluded from the results after his car was found to have a technical infringement in the post race scrutineering.
Therefore, Jaxon Evans was promoted to P2 and his rival Larry ten Voorde was awarded the win. Thankfully that will not change the points standings in the championship as the rivals stay 1st and 2nd.
French driver Florian Latorre was also promoted to P3 after his hard fought 4th place behind Evans.
The technical infringement has not yet been stated in more detail by the Porsche Super Cup organisers.
