Walkinshaw Andretti United team boss Ryan Walkinshaw has offered to assist Australian hospitals in the face of a shortage in ventilators.
The Walkinshaw Automotive Group company, which currently specialises in building right-hand drive Chevrolet products for local markets, has said that their 3D printing facilities can be used to make ventilators and other medical equipment for Australian hospitals which have quickly become inundated with Covid-19 patients.
“[We] have actually put our hand up to make medical supplies, and primarily ventilators, for Australia,” Walkinshaw told motoring news publication CarAdvice.
“We have messaged various government contacts to explore this. Awaiting further response. The time to act is now, though, not in four weeks.
“To help emergency departments treat patients affected by COVID-19, we have raised our hand to help both Federal and Victorian governments to design, engineer and assemble any emergency medical equipment that be made with a 3D printer.
“We would need the blueprints to the design of these ventilators, but we can help once we have the right information.”
Walkinshaw joins a global trend of automotive and motorsport teams using their facilities to assist local health authorities during these uncertain times.
Over the weekend, all seven British-based Formula One teams offered their aid in also producing ventilators for UK hospitals.
