Shane van Gisbergen will make appearances in four road courses in the Xfinity Series with JR Motorsports, the team co-owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kelley Earnhardt Miller, and Rick Hendrick.
The three-time Supercars champion will feature in the #9 Chevrolet at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City (June 14), the Chicago Street Race (July 5), Sonoma Raceway (July 12) and Watkins Glen International (August 9).
In 2024, van Gisbergen won at Sonoma Raceway and the Chicago Street Race, two of the four events he will return to in 2025.
The Mexico round is NASCAR’s first international points event in the division’s modern history. The Xfinity Series raced there four times, from 2005-08, where three current Cup Series stars, Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch, were amongst the winners.
Van Gisbergen is running double-duties at each of the four events, which complement his full-time Cup Series campaign with Trackhouse Racing.
“I’m trying to get as much experience as I can,” he said.
“JR Motorsports is one of the top teams and won the championship with Justin Allgaier. I can’t wait to get started.”
Connor Zilisch, a Trackhouse development driver who joins van Gisbergen and Scott McLaughlin for the 2025 Daytona 24 Hours, competes for JR Motorsports, as does 2024 Xfinity Series champion Justin Allgaier, Sammy Smith and Carson Kvapil.
JR Motorsports’ announcement also confirmed van Gisbergen’s Trackhouse teammate Ross Chastain will compete with the team for five races, the first of which is in March at Circuit of the Americas. His other races are at Darlington Raceway in April, May 31 at Nashville Superspeedway, July 19 at Dover Motor Speedway and August 2 at Iowa Speedway.
Van Gisbergen’s 2025 NASCAR season begins on February 2 with the Clash at Bowman Gray, a non-points round on the quarter-mile oval that welcomes the Cup Series for their first competitive visit since 1971.
The Daytona 500 opens the regular season on February 16.
