Kiwi drivers Brendon Leitch and Tim Miles are back in action in the Dayle ITM Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo 2 this weekend at Queensland Raceway for the third round of the GT World Challenge Australia.
It’s tight at the top, with the pairing sitting third overall, just 16 points off the leaders, Liam Talbot and recent Supercars race winner Chaz Mostert, who share Arise Racing’s GT Ferrari 296 GT3. Brad Schumacher and current Repco Supercars Championship leader Will Brown, sharing MPC’s Audi R8, are seven points off the leaders in second.
“I’m Looking forward to it,” commented Leitch. “It’s a fantastic facility. We tested here two weeks ago, and we are very happy with the progress made and our setup for the weekend.”
The depth of the field for this weekend’s round doesn’t necessarily faze the Dayle ITM team.
“It’s hard to know if this type of circuit will suit any particular car or driver,” Leitch added. “As it is really short, it is not necessarily an advantage to anyone.
“The key to being fast is to make no mistakes and be precise as the margins are tight. It is going to be tricky for everyone.”
It’s been two months since the last round at The Bend in South Australia, where the pairing continued to collect points with fifth and fourth-place finishes.
“I’ve been driver-coaching since the last round and taking part in the 24 Hours of Spa with Earl Bamber Motorsport. Unfortunately, we were involved in a crash early in the race, so we didn’t make it to the end.
“Now, the season is starting to ramp up, so I’m looking forward to getting back on the track. I think we are in a good spot heading into the round.”
The third round is part of Shannon’s SpeedSeries. Practice takes place on Thursday and Friday, followed by two qualifying sessions on Saturday morning. The first of two one-hour races takes place on Saturday evening at 6.20 pm NZST, with the second on Sunday at 1.55 pm.
