New Zealand’s Nick Cassidy and Mitch Evans are set to join forces to compete for Jaguar TCS Racing in the 2023/24 Formula E season.
While rumours of the move have been circulating, neither the team nor Cassidy has confirmed the deal. However, a reliable source has informed Velocity News that the deal is done, and an announcement is imminent.
It was announced on Tuesday morning that Sam Bird would no longer continue with Jaguar TCS Racing, opening the seat. Cassidy’s Envision Racing is a Jaguar customer team and finished second overall this season, while Evans finished third.
“We had a great relationship since he joined, and we’ve had a great time as teammates – bar Hyderabad and Jakarta!” joked Evans, speaking on Bird. “In terms of accolades, he’s up there with the best in the championship, and he’s had a tricky time of it personally and on the racing side recently. I’ve enjoyed racing with him.”
Evans has raced for Jaguar since the 2016/17 campaign, where he scored the team’s first-ever points in the Mexico E-Prix. He also scored their maiden podium in Hong Kong the following season. He has since gone on to podium a further 24 times, with 10 being wins.
Meanwhile, Cassidy has raced for Envision Racing for the past three seasons and featured on the podium 12 times, with five being wins. His contract with the team ended following this weekend’s London E-Prix, opening the pathway for him to jump ship.
The two Kiwis shared four wins each between them over the just completed 2022/23 campaign, meaning half of the season’s races were won by a New Zealander.
Four of those were one-two finishes, including at the Sao Paulo E-Prix, Monaco E-Prix, the opening race of the Rome E-Prix, and the final race of the London E-Prix.
