British Formula 4 returns to action this weekend at Thruxton, with New Zealander Louis Sharp still holding the lead in the championship; however, the field is closing in.
A mega opening weekend in the series saw Sharp take two wins and a sixth to take the championship lead. A problematic round followed at Brands Hatch, with the Kiwi exploring the gravel in Race 1 but recovering for fourth in Race 2 and Race 3 to further distance himself on the table.
In the last round at Snetterton, Sharp was also in the wars in Race 2 following contact midpack which required a nose section change mid-race. He returned from the lane to charge from 17th to 13th to salvage six valuable points. Race 3 brought a welcome return to the podium, with the Rodin Carlin driver finishing third.
Twenty-two drivers will line up at this weekend’s event on the fastest circuit in the UK, with only two heavy braking zones bringing top speeds over 120 mph (193kph).
Six different drivers have won the eight races completed to date, making for a tight title battle as the season heads towards the midpoint.
Sharp’s teammate Dion Gowda is keeping the pressure on at the top, now only sitting 6 points off the Kiwi, having taken a double-pole and a race win at Snetterton.
Rodin Carlin also leads the Teams Cup, holding a narrow lead over Hitech Pulse-Eight.
British Formula 4 will race thrice this weekend, with qualifying beginning at 12.05 am on Sunday. Race 1 follows at 5.10 that morning, with Race 2 at 2.00 am on Monday and Race 3 following at 5.30 am.
All races are 20 minutes long, and timings can be followed live on TSL Timing.
