Hugo Allan, the 2022 Toyota 86 Championship rookie champion, will contest the final round of the 2023 championship at Hampton Downs International Motorsport Park on 5 to 7 May.
At 17, Hugo won the 2022 Rookie title in the largest and most experienced field of competitors and rookies since the inception of the Toyota 86 Championship.
“I made a business decision, which included the need to secure a job, not to compete 86 [Toyota 86 Championship] this season. However, with Toyota celebrating 10 years of the championship and encouragements from friends, including TGRNZ’s support of my career, I wanted to contribute to the celebration by participating in the final round “
Allan’s rookie win was remarkable given that 2022 was his first-ever season of motorsport. More so, his non-traditional background to the sport involves two race-weekends of karting, followed by an extensive amount of simulator racing during the Covid-19 lockdowns.
In 2022, Allan further demonstrated his talents at Queensland Raceway with a podium and at the Bathurst 1000 by scoring a top 10 finish in the Toyota support race. In each of these events, the race track and the car were ‘first-time’ for Hugo, as was his co-driver in the Queensland Enduro.
Coverage of the Hampton Downs round is broadcast live on Sky Sport and TV3 Sports Channels.
“I’m proud to be supported in car #23 by Crème Insurance, Penny Homes, MRP-Manon Racing Products and DirectTrack,” says Allan.
