Callum Crawley has claimed his second successive North Island Formula Ford Championship after organisers made the decision to cancel the final two rounds and call the series.
Crawley had been engaged in a season-long tussle with rival Billy Frazer, ultimately edging home his rival by a mere four points.
The decision to call the series was made in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and the uncertainty concerning when racing will resume in New Zealand.
It means that rounds slated to be held in Taupo and Pukekohe were cancelled indefinitely, bringing the season to a premature conclusion.
Crawley’s success comes as the Manawatu teen orchestrated a string of consistent results at the top across the latter half of the season to ensure he would maintain the lead and fend off Frazer’s strong challenge.
Despite being an absentee from the final round, US-bound racer Ronan Murphy would hold onto third in the standings.
Series rookie Thomas Boniface claimed fourth in standings after having captured several podium finishes, while Cameron Tanner rounds out the top five.
Attention now turns to the 2020/21 season which organisers are aiming to begin in September with an unofficial NIFF test day scheduled for August.
The series is also in the process of bridging the gap from karting to junior formula, by providing a more cost-effective and competitive platform for seasons heading forth.
