Shane van Gisbergen has been nominated for one of the New Zealand’s most prestigious fan-voted sporting awards.
The Kiwi Supercars driver showed he had what it took to earn his third title in the series in 2022, sealing the deal in the opening round of the Gold Coast 500.
However, it was his win alongside Garth Tander at last year’s Bathurst 1000 that now sees him join 10 contenders for “New Zealand’s Favourite Sporting Moment of the Year” in the 60th Halberg Awards.
The nomination is in addition to Van Gisbergen already being named as one of four finalists for the “New Zealand Sportsman of the Year” award.
Other nominees include the Black Ferns who won the Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2022, as well as Ajaz Patel who became the third bowler in test cricket history to take all 10 wickets in an innings.
Fellow Kiwi Scott McLaughlin was nominated for the same award in 2019.
Voters have the chance to vote once a day before voting closes on 9:00pm Wednesday 15 February 2023, with the winner being announced at the 60th Halberg Awards that night.
Those wanting to vote can do so here.
