With Pukekohe seeing out its final ever Supercar round this weekend, a special celebration will take place in a parade of race vehicles which have graced New Zealand, and world, motorsport over the years. The Repco Farewell Pukekohe Parade will take place on both Saturday and Sunday and features 14 cars enriched in history.
Included in the parade is the legendary Sidchrome Ford Mustang, previously driven by Jim Richards in the mid-1970’s in both New Zealand and Australia.
There will also be Ken Smith’s Lola T332 F5000, driven by Ken himself. Accompanying this will be rival Graham McRae’s successful McRae F5000 GM1 in a showcase of New Zealand engineering and ingenuity
The Lighting Direct Porsche commissioned by Owen Evans, which previously held the New Zealand land-speed record, will also be on display, as will the Graham Addis Charger which has claimed many Sports Sedans Championships.
There’ll also be a McLaren Can Am, the Manon Escort, the Black Beauty A1GP Car, Greg Murphy’s Holden VE Commodore SuperTourer and the McLaren M10B F5000 which was raced by Howard Ganley in the early 70’s.
The Palmer Tube Mills Ford Mustang will also be on show, as will the Castrol Toyota which claimed many NZ Touring Car Championships.
The BRM Formula One Car will make an appearance, as will the Repco Brabham BT 16 Formula 2 car which was raced by Denny Hulme.
