Marcus Armstrong claimed an impressive victory at the Dutch Grand Prix this morning, holding off pole-sitter Clemant Novalak in dominant fashion.
For the third time this season Armstrong was the benefactor of the reverse top 10 from qualifying for the Sprint, his ninth fastest time seeing him start on the front row alongside Novalak.
A fast start saw Armstrong take the lead into Turn 1, where he quickly built time over the pole-sitter and Dennis Hauger who was running third.
Starting fifth on the grid for the second week in a row, Liam Lawson also gained a quick spot with a move on Armstrong’s teammate Juri Vips.
A relatively clean race played out from here, with the Kiwi’s safely holding their positions until the dying stages.
A Tatiana Calderon spin towards the end of the event saw a safety car intervention, bringing the field back together. The restart saw a one-lap sprint to the line, with a fast jump by the race-leading Armstrong ensuring victory was never in doubt.
Lawson also held on to fourth, unable to pull off a pass for a podium.
Novalak held on to second place, with Hauger rounding out the podium. Championship leader Felipe Drugovich was outside the points in 10th, but was once again helped by an off for nearest contender Theo Pourchaire who came home as the last finishing car in 20th.
The Feature Race gets underway this evening, with Lawson starting in sixth and Armstrong in ninth. Drugovich will start on pole for the event alongside last weeks race winner Jack Doohan.
Racing begins at 8.15pm and will be live on Spark Sport.
