Marcus Armstrong will start on the front row for the F2 Feature Race in Hungary, with his fastest time only eclipsed by that of Ayumu Iwasa. The Kiwi looked set for his maiden pole until a late, blistering lap by Iwasa took top spot by 0.381s.
The pole position continues the good run of form for the Japanese driver, Iwasa, who won last weekends feature in France. Championship leader Felipe Drugovich will start the event from third on the grid, with closest title contenders Theo Pourchaire and Logan Sargeant starting fourth and fifth respectively.
The close proximity of the championship leading drivers will mean Armstrong will need to race well to hold off the challenge from behind, all while contending with Iwasa ahead.
Liam Lawson qualified an unlucky 11th, which is where he will start both races. Tenth place in qualifying went to Jack Doohan, who will start from pole in tonight’s sprint with the top 10 on grid for the race a reverse of the top 10 qualifying order.
The sprint starts at 4am NZ time tomorrow, with the feature following at 9.35pm.
