Scott McLaughlin recently revealed he is interested in taking part in World Endurance Championship races.
McLaughlin kicked off his second season in the IndyCar series with a win in the opening round, and a second in race 2, now sitting at the top of the championship standings 28 points clear of teammate Will Power.
Team Penske has a partnership with Porsche that sees them participating in the WEC, where Dane Cameron, Emmanuel Collard, and Felipe Nasr race for the team.
McLaughlin recently spoke to The Race IndyCar Podcast about his hopes to drive in the WEC races.
“I want to do those races for sure. I think it’s no secret,” McLaughlin said.
“I’d love to do the Rolex 24, I’d love to do Le Mans.”
Over the offseason, McLaughlin changed engineers now working with Ben Bretzmen, after partnering Jonathan Diuguid in his rookie season in the championship.
“That’s going to be an awesome programme with Penske and Porshe and stuff like that and Jonathan [Diuguid] at the head and he’s a clever guy, really awesome it’s a great opportunity for him to run that team, I’d love to be a part of it.
“I don’t know, they’re a long way away from sorting that stuff out, they’ve got some great drivers now and if I could somehow add to that equation that would be awesome but I’ve got to make sure that doesn’t affect what Im doing here because I’ve worked so hard to make sure I’ve got no bad habits in this thing, I don’t want to add any more.”
The IndyCar series will be back on track for the third round of the championship at Long Beach April 8-10.
