New Zealanders remain forced to find alternative streaming services for their NASCAR fix this year.
Sky Sport has still not progressed past ‘talks’ with the series about broadcasting rights.
Last month, Velocity News reported Sky Sport had not renewed their rights with NASCAR.
The once traditional Kiwi home of American stock car racing is yet to broadcast any race this season.
In their latest update to us, Sky said they are “still talking” with NASCAR about a new broadcasting deal.
They had no further comment to make beyond that.
NASCAR advertising has been removed from Sky’s motorsport promo webpage.
Spark Sport, Sky’s lead streaming rival, also has no update. Judging by their comments, it seems unlikely Spark will bother picking NASCAR up this year.
There are still some ways to watch NASCAR in New Zealand without Sky.
Kayo Sport in Australia stream every race live and on-demand.
You can’t directly sign-up to Kayo and watch live sport if you live in New Zealand.
To get around this, you connect to a Virtual Private Network (VPN).
VPNs are legal in New Zealand. There is nothing banning you from you using them.
What they do is bypass your device’s IP Address, which tells the internet where you are, so you can access geographically blocked websites.
The best VPNs aren’t free, but they are relatively cheap.
Connecting to an Australian server via a VPN will allow you to watch NASCAR on Kayo in New Zealand with a basic subscription package for AUD $25 per month.
You can also do they same with American streaming services that offer NASCAR, such as Hulu+. Though this option is a lot more expensive.
The cheapest way to watch NASCAR (i.e. for free) is through certain website-based streams.
Enough research will find you a stream, albeit likely from the dodgy side of the internet.
But if your device gets infected with a virus, or worse, gets inundated with messages from women in your area, that is on you.
