Formula E aims to add a further five or six races to the current schedule, with some races potentially taking place behind closed doors, according to series founder and chairman, Alejandro Agag.
Only five races have been held so far this season. However, the sporting regulations dictate that a minimum of six events are required in order to qualify as a championship.
The championship has been suspended in response to the coronavirus pandemic that has wreaked havoc on sporting events across the world. Three events remain unaffected by the suspension – Berlin, New York, and the season finale in London.
Speaking with Motorsport.com, Agag said the series will seek to add a further two or three events to the schedule:
“For us, it would be great if we can finish the season with more races,” he said. “That’s the objective. Will we be able to? We don’t know.
“Right now, it seems that probably or maybe yes. We may be able to get going in July, in August, in September. So, we have those months to organise races.
“I think another five or six races in Europe or in one of those places [Jakarta or Seoul] is our objective and anything is achievable at this point.
“All the cities, obviously, we have a very close relationship with them. We’ve been always in contact with the cities, and everything is basically postponed by a year.”
While the sport carries out its suspension, an Eseries has been organised for both the official championship drivers and the sim racers. The winners of the sim racing comp will receive a test drive in a real-life Formula E car.
