Damon Rees is in good spirits after a heavy crash during National Superstock 1000 qualifying at Silverstone.
The exact details about the incident are still unknown. A statement on Rees’ social media confirmed he had broken several ribs in a crash at Copse corner.
Copse is the first corner of the Silverstone national layout, which riders take at significant speeds.
“[Rees] has suffered a broken humerus in multiple places, 4 broken ribs, a bruised lung and 2 fractured vertebrae,” read the social media post.
“Although the injuries are quite substantial, he is in good spirits and is already looking forward to starting the road to recovery.
“He is obviously disappointed to end the round prematurely – and wants to thank everyone for the support this season.”
There are four more rounds of the season after Silverstone, with the year finishing up at Brands Hatch in mid-October.
Whether Rees will be back on the bike in time for any of the remaining rounds is still in question.
Fellow Kiwi rider Shane Richardson qualified 26th for the first of two races this weekend.
