A triumphant effort from Jaxon Evans was unfortunately not enough to get him the Porsche Supercup championship title this year.
Evans had a great start gaining a position into the first chicane and moving up to 3rd but was swiftly overtaken by his teammate Dorian Boccolacci.
The flying Kiwi was defending hard against the current rookie standings leader Laurin Heinrich who was darting up the inside looking hungrily for a chance to overtake.
But the moves wouldn’t pay off as Heinrich used too much of his tyres too soon and Evans continued on with his race in 4th slowly catching his teammate in front.
Heading into lap 8 Evans started to pick up the pace and extended his lead on Heinrich to half a second. The gap between 4th and 8th was only a tenth of a second at some points of the race with the cars literally bumper to bumper.
Larry ten Voorde seemed outpaced by Boccolacci behind who eventually made his move with no retaliation from the championship leader.
A scary moment for Evans on lap 10 as he trimmed the outskirts of the track in an attempt to defend thankfully he managing to keep it on track and press on.
The top 3 drivers had free air up ahead and were making the most of it as the polesitter and entire race leader, Ayhancan Guven, finished an outstanding performance to finish first.
In the final two laps Boccolacci seemed to be playing the team game as he tried to slow down larry behind him to help Evans catch up and pass. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late as the drivers neared the 15th lap.
Guven came across the line first, following him was Boccolacci, and finally the 3rd placed driver was Larry ten Voorde. The Dutchman is now the 2021 Porsche Supercup champion seeing as he has enough points buffering him for the final race tomorrow.
An unfortunate end to the season for Evans. It seemed like the pace could have been there but possibly the team tactics played into the race too much. That can be uncovered in the following days.
Nonetheless, the Kiwi will still be fighting hard tomorrow in order to secure his 2nd place finish for the 2021 season.
Here are how the top 10 finished at Monza for round 7:
