Liam Lawson is back in his Red Bull Ferrari at the teams home circuit looking to bounce back from a troublesome Nurburgring round.
Still on break from his Formula 2 duties where the next race is next weekend at Monza with the last race all the way back in July.
Lawson looked good early on in the practice session setting fastest 2nd sectors but eventually having his times deleted for track limits.
He was slightly enthusiastic over the radio when the car went into the pits with 5 minutes remaining. His engineers told him that the stewards were seeing Lawson putting all four wheels over the white line coming out of the final corner.
After those comments from the engineers Lawson couldn’t believe what he was hearing and truly thought he was within the limits.
Sitting in 7th with 6 minutes to go, Lawson took to the track for his final 2 flying laps.
He went up to 6th with one lap to go and then faster again to finish a decent 5th place.
But there is still more pace for Lawson to explore in the further sessions as his teammate Alex Albon seemed to use his track experience from F1 to blast his AF Corse Ferrari into second spot.
Let us see what Lawson can pull out of the bag in the second practice session and hope that his luck is on the up for qualifying and the 2 races on Saturday and Sunday in Austria.
