Lawson qualified 11th again for the 2nd race of the 4th round at the nurburgring gp circuit.
The rain soaked track meant times were 10 seconds slower than yesterday’s fastest qualifying lap.
As the time ran out the rain intensified with the visibility on track deteriorating into the final 3 minutes.
Spray was flying out of the back of all cars creating havoc for some. The cars were on a slightly more even playing field with the help of the rain.
Yesterday the Ferraris seemed to be down on pace with Lawson and Albon only 1 one thousandth apart after lapping the track at the cars limits.
Those laps were only good enough for 9th and 11th on the starting grid. The top ten was then made up of all German manufacturers.
But today the RedBull machines seemed to be on form with Lawson taking provisional 5th with 3 minutes to go but failing to better that and falling to 11th.
Alex Albon showed real promise by claiming pole position in his AlphaTauri Ferrari. He showed excellent skill in the rain to pull off the fastest time of the session.
Lawson will be hoping to stay clear of trouble in these drastically different conditions. Hopefully he can make it into the points this time around!
