The upcoming BMW Race Driver Series will welcome the introduction of the new E46 control class.
The class will use both the two- and four-door BMW E46 and will be fitted with mandated controlled parts.
A 2.2-litre six-cylinder M54B22 engine with little tuning allowed will ensure an evenly matched playing field and sustainable engine costs.
The Dunlop 03G R3 will be the control tyre for the entire season.
The E46 class is designed to act as the next stepping stone for drivers currently racing in the E30 championship.
Drivers will have more technical freedom in the E46 class over the E30 series.
Driver delegate for the BMW Race Driver Series, David Whitburn, is excited to see what the new series offers.
“The new E46 car is fantastic to drive,” Whitburn said.
“We’ve taken the hugely popular concept that’s worked so well for our E30 class and evolved it to create another cost-effective and competitive class.”
The E46’s will run as its own series on the same grid as the E30 class.
Ten cars are reportedly ready for the new season, which begins at Pukekohe in September.
