A merger between the Australian Motor Racing Series (ARMS) and MARC Cars Australian have formed a newly branded Super GT Australia Championship.
The new championship will replace the GT-1 Australia series which currently aims to provide a cost-effective and user-friendly category for a wide variety of GT cars.
AMRS Series Manager Matt Baragwanath says he is excited for the change and the possibilities that Super GT could bring to the Australian GT market.
“There are some exciting possibilities for the Super GT Australia Championship, especially in regards to the partnership with MARC Cars Australia, which is a growing business under the new stewardship of Geoff Taunton,”
Baragwanath said.
“We look forward to working with Geoff and his team to deliver a championship that meets the requirements of the competitors – an affordable, fun and hassle-free environment to enjoy testing the limits of their machinery.”
MARC Cars Australia boss, Geoff Taunton, says he too is excited to begin promoting the new series while working alongside the experienced team from ARMS.
“We are excited to be working with AMRS to promote the SuperGT championship,”
Taunton said.
“It is a fantastic category to race with – there is a great group of drivers already involved so we want to build on the foundation we have enjoyed being part of for the last few years.”
The Super GT championship will cater for a wide rand of GT cars, including GT3 and GT4-spec cars, and MARC I and II cars.
The current GT-1 Australia championship runs two 15-minute qualifying sessions on a Saturday with two 48-minute races plus one lap on Sunday.
But the revamped Super GT class will aim to simplify the timed races while still allowing ample track time.
Baragwanath thanked both Rod Salmon and Paul Taylor from GT-1 Australia for developing a class that enables older Australian GT cars to have a race series across the country.
“We would like to acknowledge the work done by Rod Salmon, Paul Taylor and their team in establishing and building up the GT-1 Australia category over the last two seasons,”
Baragwanath added.
“It’s given us a very solid competitor base to ensure the Super GT Australia Championship is a success.”
The Super GT Australia Championship will begin at Morgan Park in Queensland on April 4-5 and will be streamed live on Facebook.
