Scott Dixon has been nominated for the Best Driver Award in this year’s ESPYS, a prestigious annual sports ceremony.
The Kiwi won his sixth IndyCar title last year, putting him one shy of A.J Foyt’s all-time record of seven.
He won four races last year and is third on the all-time winning list with 51 victories.
“It’s always humbling to be recognized by ESPN with an ESPY nomination,” Dixon said.
“They award the best in sports, and I want to congratulate all the nominees in the Best Driver category.
“Racing is more than just a single person or a driver, and I have a great team behind me at Chip Ganassi Racing. This year marks 20 years together and a lot of success as a team, fortunately.
“I hope we can keep it up for many years to come.”
What makes the ESPYS different from several other awards is that fans vote for who they believe deserves the award.
The athlete with the most votes receives the award.
There are four drivers up for the Best Driver Award, with Dixon up against Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton, NASCAR series champion Chase Elliot and NHRA Pro Stock champion Erica Ender.
Unfortunately, Dixon isn’t up for Best Male Athlete.
Those nominated for the most illustrious ESPY award are Lewis Hamilton (F1), Tom Brady (NFL), Connor McDavid (NHL) and Nikola Jokic (NBA).
You can vote for Dixon here and polls close on July 9.
The recipient of the award will be then be announced on July 10.
Scott Dixon National treasure should be recognised for such an amazing talent.
